I’ve been told a few times over the years to “get a life”. I suppose they meant something mean, but who cares. I decided to get one anyways! And in doing so, I decided to create my very own DIY 1up Mushroom Plush. If you’re looking to get a life yourself, feel free to download the pattern follow the video instructions and make your very own!

Download the Pattern Here

I made mine in green and white, but there’s no reason why you couldn’t create an army of these cute little guys in pretty much any colors you can think of (or find the fabric for). I’d recommend staying away from green and purple though, those poisonous little buggers are a bad time.

I’ve started a fairly ambitious project. My end game isn’t 100% finalized yet, but to get where I’m going I’ve decided I want to learn how to create perler bead animations. My test subject; Super Mario Bros. I really feel this game is a great choice for my project since it’s got a fairly limited set of sprites to work with, a smallish set of colors, and it’s super well recognized.

Initially I’d planned to make them using what I normally use to edit my videos, Final Cut Pro X. However, it became pretty clear right away that this was not going to work for anything beyond super simple animations. So I did a bit of looking, and decided to try my hand at learning Motion 5. It seemed like a good place to start, since it seems to be similar to FCPX, but be much more suited to creating motion graphics.

So off I went, and I have now got a rudimentary idea of how Motion 5 works. I’m a LONG way from being a pro, and it might turn out that it’s the wrong tool for the job in the end. But for now, I’m gonna keep plugging away at this, and see how it goes.

I think I’ve mentioned somewhere in the thousands of times that yes, I’m a fan of board games. So making a DIY Super Mario Warp Pipe for a Super Mario card game just made sense. I was pretty happy overall with the way this craft turned out, but I still haven’t figured out the best way to get the lid to stay on and look good at the same time. Since the top of the lid and the bottom of the case are the same size, you kinda need to bend the seam of the pipe part a bit to get it to fit in correctly. But it does work, and is still where I keep my Mario card game today.

I’ve been asked several times by people to tell them how I made my boo plush. And I’ve been promising to get them a pattern for awhile now.

Today I make good on that promise, and have made a pattern for you to follow, and a step by step guide on how to make a Super Mario Bros Boo plushy.

You can read the original article here

First things first, download and print out the pattern from here

Back in the 90s someone I knew made me a decorative black mage from Final Fantasy using perler beads. I’ve always thought it was cool, and have kept it around somewhere handy.

When my girlfriend suggested I make a Nintendo controller business card for my next video, I immediately went in search of how I could get my hands on some of these beads. It turns out they’re pretty cheap, and easy to get.

Although I borrowed the idea from an etsy post, I tweaked the pattern just a bit to look more like an actual NES controller. Of course it’s probably simpler to get one from the original etsy listing. But it’s my intention to eventually complete the Final Fantasy set of characters with beads.

Boo plush toy [How to]

What you’ll need to make the boo plush

4 pieces of felt, 2 white, one red and one black. I was pretty tight on white felt, so you may want to get a third sheet just in case.

You’ll need velcro, I used sticky back round pieces. Scissors, Needle and thread, a bunch of stuffing and a hot glue gun.

Cut one of the white sheets in half

Then cut the sides of boo out. They should look like 2 bubbly quotes

Out of the other white sheet, cut a piece that looks like a leaf. Mine was too wide, and I had to make it thinner later. I also cut the tip of one end off.

Cut out the top of boo’s tail out of the scraps.

Cut a small rectangle, then line it up with the top of the tail piece, and make into a trapezoid.

Lastly for boo’s body, you’ll need to cut his wings out of the leftovers. I cut two triangles, and then cut the sides off the triangles, so it looks like a house. You’ll need two of these, the same size.

Time to sew one side of boo to the center piece. Line up the point of the leaf shaped piece with the tip of the tail, and start sewing along the bottom of boo along the entire side of the leaf. Stop when you reach the flattened portion of the leaf piece.
